Jennifer Finn Photography

Born in Stratford, Ontario in 1970, Jennifer Finn's interest in the arts emerged when she was a child. The Festival City provided an artistic atmosphere allowing a nurturing and exploration of artistic expression through art, dance and music classes. Although her interest continued as a teenager, after high school, Jennifer decided to pursue a history degree at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. It is there, while studying film courses and shooting photos for the campus paper, that Jennifer's passion for photography was ignited. After completion of her Bachelor of Arts in 1993, Jennifer went on to study photography at Sheridan College. She got her start as a photographer's assistant in Toronto, but within a year's time she was out on her own. As a freelance photographer, her work encompasses a wide realm including product, landscape, model portfolios, musicians, and child portraits. She prefers to execute a creative approach in less traditional settings. In the studio or on location, Jennifer has the ability to quickly make her subjects feel at ease, and turn work into a fun and interesting experience. Whether it is business or interest, photography to Jennifer Finn is a form of art and an expression of life.

As a highly effective and always amiable event organizer and publicist, Lance Dainard has already won plenty of friends in the Canadian music community. He is now set to impress them with his own musical skill as a songwriter, pianist and singer.

The musical creativity of this charming young man has been an all too well-kept secret. Happily, that is about to change. Lance is now committed to pursuing his dreams, but on his own terms. His forte is melody-rich material that is easy on the ear, yet imbued with genuine passion.

His style may not be the current flavour-of-the-month, but it possesses a timeless appeal. “I used to wonder whether it was cool or not,” Lance concedes. “But whether you are cool or not isn't really what it is about. It is about satisfaction, I realised that it is not whether the whole populace or just two people like it. It's about being honest to myself. This is the music I like to play.”

Dainard's love affair with music began early. He grew up in rural interior B.C. (near Kelowna), surrounded by classic country music. “To me, country music is Hank Snow and Loretta Lynn, the stuff my parents grew up with. We didn't have much TV, just records and CBC Radio. Only as a late teenager did I develop different tastes, because only then did I hear different things.”

Lance started on piano at a young age, and was soon singing with friends in grade school. He became an accomplished square dancer and caller, but his tastes in music and dance later evolved. He's now a proficient ballroom dancer, and that has influenced the piano-based compositions he creates. “My music has a tendency to be danceable in that sense. Many of my songs have a waltz feel.”

Musical influences and inspirations include the likes of ABBA, Neil Diamond, Burton Cummings and Cher. “I've been writing songs on and off for about 15 years,” Lance explains. “In the last five years, my writing has evolved on a much more conscious level. Growing up with those country classics has made some of the profession of songwriting easy . You unconsciously know about verses, choruses and bridges without really having to plan the process. The songs fall out on the paper.”

Lance continues to patiently hone his craft with an eye to recording a debut CD shortly. Look for it to include at least one instrumental, as well as songs that highlight his warm and welcoming vocal style. The wait is sure to have been worthwhile.
